Bearcats Finish 2nd at the HAC Wrestling Championships

Kearney High School hosted the Heartland Athletic Conference Wrestling tournament on Saturday. This competition featured six teams ranked in the top ten of Class A in Nebraska. The Bearcats finished as the conference runner up out of the 12 team talented field.

Gage Ferguson (152 pounds) and Carter Abels (182 pounds) were both crowned champions in their individual weight classes. Both Ferguson and Abels picked up three pins and four total wins to capture their conference championships. Archer Heelan (113 pounds) and Tate Kuchera (170 pounds) both finished in second place in their respective weight classes. Dario Rodriguez (220 pounds) and Beau Hostlerr (145 pounds) both finished in 3rd place with a 3-1 record on the day. Perry Swarm went 3-2 on the day at 126 pounds and finished in 4th place. Other conference placers were: Flavia Nagatani (6th place at 106 pounds), Ethan Lawrence (5th place at 120 pounds), Cisco Rivas (5th place at 132 pounds), “Our team competed well today”, said coach Ty Swarm, “we are seeing some growth in a good direction right now and I believe that today showed that we can compete with some of the best teams in the state”. Kearney high school will travel to Columbus on Thursday for a dual and then return home to compete in the Midwest Duals on Friday. This event is hosted at the Buffalo County Event Center. Wrestling begins at 10am on Friday.
