Kearney Wins Rodriguez Tournament of Champions

Kearney captured the team title at the Rodriguez Tournament of Champions with 483.0 points, finishing well ahead of Rocky Mountain (307.5) and Chatfield (297.5) in a 34-team field.


The Bearcats crowned six individual champions and scored points throughout the lineup.


Tournament titles were won by Jameson Small (120), Kaden Kowalek (126), Jacob Weiler (132), Colton Kelley (150), John Florell (215), and Dylan Johnson (285). Small went unbeaten at 120, winning the championship by decision after scoring bonus points earlier in the tournament. Kowalek dominated the 126-pound bracket with multiple tech falls and major decisions before closing with a shutout win in the finals. Weiler earned first place at 132 with two bonus-point victories and three decision wins.


At 150, Colton Kelley remained undefeated on the season, advanced to the finals with four bonus-point wins, and captured the title in a tiebreaker. His performance earned him the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler award. Florell controlled the 215-pound bracket with three technical falls, a major decision, and a fall in the championship match. Johnson won all five of his matches by fall to claim the heavyweight title and score a team-high 48 points.


Braxton Robinson (157) placed second after reaching the finals with four falls. Peyton Meier (175) and Sam Lungrin (190) each finished third following strong consolation runs.


Additional Kearney placewinners included Zaen Green (138) in fifth, Kade Abbey (165) in sixth, Cooper Ritz (144) in eighth, and Victor Reyes (106) and Jesvin Verduzco (113) in ninth.


Kearney combined championship performances with consistent depth to secure a decisive team victory at the Rodriguez Tournament of Champions.
